End of 2012

It feels like an age since I last updated here...

Here are my additions from the second half of 2012, mainly Mojo Fun barring the two resins from Bowbrook Studios and the Schleich white tailed stag.

New Additions July

We are having a discraceful summer weather-wise but I am having a great summer collecting-wise!!

Here are my additions for July so far...

Crane (new-ray)

Timber Wolf (Mojo Fun)

Birds of prey from The International Centre for Birds of Prey shop (resin)

Barn Owl (Bowbrook Studios)

The resin birds of prey are all unmarked and cost less than £2 each! From left to right: goshawk, peregrine falcon, eastern chanting goshawk (I think) and a kestrel.

The barn owl was also from the ICBP shop. It was part of a fairly large collection of different types of owl figures left to the centre by a local lady. They were accepting any donations for these owls with the money going the help with the running of the centre.

Also...A HORSE!!! I have a horse. I genuinley believed I would never have a horse in my collection. Well it's not your usual animal figure, it's made with coal by Unity Gifts. We went away recently for a few days and we visited an old coal mine in Wales called Big Pit. This was a great day where we spoke to a retired miner for some time sharing his knowledge and experiences with us. Thank you to him, he made the visit great. Out of respect I wanted to buy a piece of coal to remember the visit by and then I saw this horse...coal and an animal in one, no brainer. Here is my one and only horse.

New-Ray crane

Thanks to a very kind friend on STS I have managed to get my hands on this wonderful crane. My first crane and my first new-ray. It has a lot more detail than I was expecting. Thank you very much!!

A great end to a great month of collecting!

Here are my last additions of June. Whilst on holiday in Suffolk, I got a brief glimpse of one of my now favourite animals, a Reeve's Muntjac. I had never seen this animal in the flesh before so it was a really nice moment for me. I was suprised at just how small they are. Since then I have constantly been searching for the Kaiyodo Choco Q replica...and here it is. With a base I made so he can stand.

This next replica is very special! The flagship in my collection. The snow leopard has been one of my most favourite animals since I can remember. This is a copy of a hand sculpted and hand painted creation by Anna Dobrowolska-Oczko. It is a true masterpiece. Anna has captured this leopard so well in her work here that it really looks like it belongs in the Himalayas! Thank you very much Anna!

Schleich red squirrel repainted into a grey squirrel

I had plenty of free time today so I decided to make a start on a small repaint project that I have had in my head for quite a long time now. Ten whole minutes later, one is done and I'm half way there! As you can see, for me it was just a case of slapping on some grey paint so the result is relative! But all the same, it looks nice from a distance!

New additions - Kaioydo and Epoch

My face is beaming! All three arrived today, from different sellers - I have some stamps now that I think would make a stamp collector quite jealous. The snowy owl (Kaiyodo Zoorasia) I have been after ever since I first saw it on DTF. It is stunning, the pose is wonderful it really makes the owl alive!

The common or river kingfisher (Kaiyodo Birdtales) is beautiful. I used to see some of these living on a small river near me, the electric blue flash of them fishing is a really nice sight. Unfortunately I haven't seen them for quite a few years. This model was damaged, in the post maybe, half of the top part of the beak was snapped off but nothing a pair of focussed hands and some glue couldn't fix! Also the base seems to be facing the wrong way which is a pitty but only a drop of water in the sea. At some point I will retake the photos of the river kingfisher, it is right up there as one of my favourites so I want to do it some justice - maybe with a different camera.

The Egyptian vulture (Epoch) is also brilliant, the base being used to show one of its famous characteristics of using a stone as a tool to break open an egg. It will sit nicely with my Epoch Steller's sea eagle.

My photographs really cannot give any justice to these beautiful birds.

New Additions June

My first additions of June are these six. Four from Mojo Fun and one each from AAA and Science and Nature. I have taken individual pictures of them and added them to my collection pages >>>

I am really pleased with all of these, the eagle is quite spectacular. I will be repainting my Schleich bald eagle into a golden eagle at some point and I will post pictures when I have done so.
